Fun and Games
Pub Games
There's a range of traditional pub games available in an area near the cider bar. The games may have weird names like "devil among the tailors" but they're great fun and take a lot of skill. Come along to find out more and challenge your friends. Prizes awarded for the best scores.
Tombola
Try your luck on the tombola (next to the wine stall and the CAMRA Products stand), where there are many excellent prizes waiting to be won.
Morris Dancers
Kennet Morris, the oldest Morris Dance side in the area, will be performing in the beer garden, adding to the village fete feel of the festival.
Balloon Platoon
Watch out for the Balloon Platoon who will be wandering around the site making their renowned balloon hats and causing general silliness wherever they go.
Face Painting
On Saturday and Sunday there will be face painting by Gary and Raphaelle of Body Canvas. It's worth getting there early as demand for their award-winning art is high.
Family Day
Sunday is the Family Day of the festival. A children's area is available inside and fancy dress features on the pub games, while outside Body Canvas continue their expert face painting and supervise the bouncy castle. The shire horses from Hook Norton Brewery will also be there with their dray in the afternoon. Major and Nelson are working shires who deliver beer to pubs near the brewery, and they're visiting us on their day off! A great treat for children and adults alike.
Awards and Prizes
The joint winners of our branch Pub of the Year contest are the Bird in Hand at Knowl Hill and the Nag's Head in Reading. They will be presented with their certificates on Friday afternoon at 2pm. On Saturday afternoon the draw will take place at 2pm for the Reading and Mid Berkshire CAMRA Ale Trail. If you took part, come along to see if you've won a polypin of real ale or one of the other prizes. Both these events will take place near the CAMRA Products stand.
